Text Message Broadcasting Services

June 27, 2010

There are nearly 286 million mobile phones in the United States alone.  Talk about a massive number of distribution points!  Needless to say, all—or most—of your customers have cell phones so text messaging, with their permission, is a good way to reach them.

Your Twitter updates will automatically route to your customer’s phones as text messages if they have subscribed to your Twitter stream via SMS by texting “follow [username]” to 40404 in the United States.  For example, you can receive my Twitter updates by texting follow feliciajoy to 40404.  This is a free way to reach them but it also relies on them to somewhat go out of their way to subscribe.  Not many people will do that.

So, the next best thing is to build a text message list, just like you have built an e-mail list, and get a service that will enable you to send texts to this list.  Following are three text message broadcasting services one of which should work for you:

  1. Trumpia
  2. Club Texting
  3. Txt Signal
